Institute Presentation

Turku PET Centre is a Finnish national research institute founded in 1974 by the University of Turku (UTU), Åbo Akademi University and the Turku University Hospital. Turku PET Centre has expertise in PET (positron emission tomography) tracer development, preclinical and clinical PET research, diagnostic services, and contract research for the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, the centre employs more than 110 staff members and investigators from various research fields. The facilities utilize 3 cyclotrons, 16 hot cells for GMP level PET tracer production, 4 PET scanners, a 64-slice CT, a 1.5 T MRI, digital ultrasound systems, a small animal PET scanner and a small animal PET/CT.

Within BetaImage, the main focus of UTU is imaging of beta cells using PET. Our key tasks in BetaImage are PET beta cell imaging in humans (clinical studies, WP4), radionuclide production, radiochemistry, and preclinical evaluations of PET radiotracers.
